Un-fucking-believable.

This.

Now be prepared for a rant.

I mean, I guess I couldn’t be surprised that a state like Mississippi would be the state to suggest such absurdity: After all, they aren’t the most forward thinking state in the country. It’s not like they are known for their shining examples of race relations or education.

Like, what do we need, people: A Roe v. Wade for fatness? How can this even be possible? According to Junkfood Science, the bill will target only certain restaurants. OK. Likely, those restaurants will be fast food chains first, as “obese” people have sued them in the past. Many fast food chains have drive-throughs; how will people be weighed, then? Will they have to get out of their cars at the talking box thing, or will the entire car be weighed? What if there is more than one person in the car? Will the entire car’s BMI be averaged?

How will restaurants respond? Will they come to the aid of fatties everywhere? Will they claim that fat people are their best customers, and demand that this discriminatory practice will hurt their business, such as bars here in Madison did when the smoking ban went into effect a couple of years ago? Or will they be so disgusted by the fat patrons they will say nothing?

Will scales have to be synchronized and calibrated? Will they be simple bathroom scales, or will they be like, cow scales? Will they have BMI calculators on them? Or will restaurant managers be armed with the formula on how to figure out the BMI, and then entrusted to teach wait staff and host staff on how to determine the BMIs of hopeful patrons? Will flesh calipers be involved?

What is next, people? Fucking arm bands listing >30 on them, so that we can determine who we should accurately discriminate against? So we can be assured that we are not eating next to an “obese” person in a restaurant, since clearly visual appearance doesn’t really reflect some uniform standard of “obesity” very well — see Shapely Prose’s BMI Project for proof of that.

Anyone who questioned my previous blog equating fat hatred and discrimination as one step on a slippery slope toward the fascist hatred espoused by regimes like Hitler’s Nazi Germany, or Stalin’s Russia, well, folks: Here is where it starts.

I have to admit, this part cracked me up. Yeah, and pizza delivery drivers will have to carry one of those doctor scales that measures height and weight and take it to the front door of every house and apartment!

Someone didn’t have their thinking caps on down there, hot damn.

(cross commented to other posts on this topic)

According to the Mississippi Development Authority’s press release from May of last year), tourism brings in 5.75 billion annually to Mississippi.

Mississippi does not have a ban on smoking in restaurants (some localities do, but not the state as a whole).
I sent an email to Mr. Mayhall.

I want to know if any one has heard about the “tubbie tax” for fatties on airlines? I saw this on AOL’s Welcome page a couple of months ago – and most recently on the radio. Both times I found it incredulous – but apparently these people are serious. Get this:

Due to gas prices soaring – select airlines are proposing to literally tax “overweight” people for EVERY POUND they weigh over the “standard” height/weight chart ( what the @$#&!!!!). CAN YOU BELIEVE IT????!!!!!!! How much more harrassment must we suffer – I SAY BOYCOTT THOSE AIRLINES THAT SUBJECT US TO THIS – when and if they do. Ciao. PG

    Meowser:

Look at the text of the proposed bill (HB 282):

This law would cover only enclosed restaurants (I assume that means within a building) that seat more than five people. Your pizza delivery driver would not be covered under the proposed law if he delivered the pizza to a home (not a restaurant), for example (not a restaurant); ditto for food trucks on the street, drive-throughs (if the customers remain in the car), and the like.

If the person showed up at the pizzeria and it seats more than five diners (or the customer sits down inside a “qualifying” eatery)? Then it does. I suppose even a hospital patient could not eat in the hospital commissary (the law is silent as to whether eating in their room would be legal)…

OK, so it’s totally healthier to go to drive-throughs or food trucks on the street or have it delivered, than to eat at a sitdown restaurant? This is what’s supposed to make people thin? Wow, they really are dumbshits, worse even than I thought.

Meowser, come on. It’s not supposed to make people thin. It’s supposed to punish bad fat fatties.

Usually there’s some sort of figleaf along the lines of “concerned for your health” covering up the hate. This, however, has no figleaf; it’s hate in its raw, pure form.

Unless the Missouri legislature is unusually thin, the moment they start trying to define “obese,” they’re going to find a lot of their own members are included in that category, no matter how you cut it. I wonder how many will vote to ban themselves from public dining?

Wow. You know, I just emailed a friend about this and she made the point that even people who work out at the gym can be considered “obese” by BMI standards…so I would have to think that they would go by they way you look…

    Stupid Heads.
